Annual Dinner with The Rt Hon Chris Philp MP - Shadow Home Secretary 22 October
We are delighted that Chris will be joining us for our Annual Dinner.
Chris has achieved a great deal since he started as a Camden Councillor and then as our Parliamentary Candidate for Hampstead & Kilburn in 2010. Sadly, he failed to unseat Glenda Jackson by 42 votes. We have all enjoyed watching his career ever since.
In 2015, Chris won the Croydon South seat and served in various roles, starting as a Personal Private Secretary to Sajid Javid. In 2019, Chris became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Ministry of Justice, and in February 2020, at the Home Office. He was also briefly the Minister for London from December 2019 to February 2020. He was moved to the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Tech and the Digital Economy in September. He resigned from this post during the July 2022 ‘government crisis’.
In September 2022, Chris joined the cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. In October 2022, becoming Minister for the Cabinet Office and Paymaster General and then Minister of State at the Home Office until the end of the Conservative government in July 2024.
In Opposition, Chris became Shadow Leader of the House of Commons before becoming Shadow Home Secretary in November 2024. He is vigorously opposing the Labour Government.
