Chalcots tenants slam latest Camden Chacots Windows Fiasco
■ Chalcot resident, Nigel Rumble, discovered that Camden had fitted Chalcot towers windows backwards! He has forced Camden Council to acknowledge the latest fiasco to impact the flats. They have all experienced severe disruptions that have ruined the enjoyment of their apartments for the past eight years due to the overdue and overcost recladding project.
■These flats dominate our horizon. It's just the latest mess Camden has inflicted on its own tenants. Many windows were installed the wrong way round. The botched windows are not a safety concern, but they would cause overheating in the summertime. The crews are fixing them straight away.
■ With this lengthy retrofit project finally coming to an end, scaffolding was being taken off the building and residents were gearing up for a celebration. But when Nigel discovered the mistake, the crews went right back to work to fix it. They are setting about re-installing the windows the correct way round as quickly as possible.
■ Tenants are exhausted from all of the disruption this project has caused. Dealing with the commotion of construction work in their own homes, having to wear noise-cancelling headphones to protect themselves from the banging and drilling, and even having to relocate are terrible disturbances from normal life.
■ While McLaren Construction do not expect this work to be noisy or prolong the refurbishing project this remains to be seen.
■ Camden Conservative Leader Cllr Steve Adams, who has been closely watching over the execution of the project, is pressing the Council to explain how this was all missed by
The Council's own quality inspectors and their top-flight Professional Team.
