Cllr Shiva Tiwari changes from Labour to Camden Conservatives
Here is his message to West Hampstead residents
I have been your local Councillor in our special part of Camden for 6 years now and thank you for your support in the last 2 elections. I want to explain my decision to change political parties. Sadly the Labour Party has over several years moved away from the principles that matter to me - such as supporting family values, hard work, aspiration, cohesion, a vibrant private sector and good public services. This will not deliver the economic growth that our country so surely needs to raise living standards and provide opportunities for everyone.
At the same time, Camden Labour has become so assured in its majority and defensive in its positions that we no longer have any democratic debate, just worsening services in areas like rubbish collection, roads and housing maintenance, and new property development management.
There is no real scrutiny of the quality of services delivered by the Council to residents and workers.
As part of the Camden Conservatives, I believe I can more freely put Camden people first and will have the freedom to call out flawed policies and demand better service delivery.
The Camden Conservatives present the credible opposition to Labour.
Good government (local and national) relies on good opposition, and I want to have a greater impact on important local matters, not just be forced to vote through everything that this Camden Labour leadership proposes. I promise to continue to work hard as a Councillor for all of you, no matter your political allegiance. I hope that you can respect my deeply considered decision and to meet you again on the streets of West Hampstead soon, to deal with the real business of protecting your enjoyment of life in our borough.
