The poorly designed Haverstock Hill cycle lane continues to cause chaos. Rat runs to avoid the chaos have, unsurprisingly, materialised.
Whilst we are fully supportive of cycling in Camden, this scheme is deeply flawed. Over-complicated routing around bus stops, the profusion of plastic paraphernalia, and confusing blue painted junctions has resulted in an unsafe mess to the detriment of local residents. We knew, from the outset, Camden’s consultation was flawed, so we asked you directly what you thought. You told us you were unhappy about the safety, appearance, value, and effectiveness of the whole project. Pedestrian safety has been compromised, it’s not improved cycling, and shops are suffering and closing.
Rat Runs are rife. Not only cars but buses, vans and coaches are now using Belsize Park Gardens as a rat run. Englands Lane is now regularly blocked by rat running traffic disturbing the tranquillity and civility of the area. The scheme was imposed despite residents overwhelmingly voting against its implementation. Your Local Lib Dem Councillors supported the Haverstock Hill bike lane. Since their election they have voted with Labour illustrating how, much like Camden Labour, they are convinced they know better than the residents they are supposed to represent.
There will be new Camden elections on May 7th. You can let us know your views on this scheme via the page camden.team/RatRuns or by contacting your fantastic local Conservative candidates:
