Huge Towers set to Overlook our Heath
Our part of Camden is facing a fundamental challenge which could affect the enjoyment of residents for generations to come.
This concerns the vitally important protection of the public enjoyment of Hampstead Heath. A planning application was recently submitted for the development of Regis Road, Kentish Town and is set to make prime land available to large corporate tenants including a Megalith of a stack of 6 film studios
While further into central London the Euston Area Plan sensibly restricts building heights to 30-40 metres, in Kentish Town, apparently the spirit of Gotham is being applied. The proposed studio building is 113 metres high. It will be joined by several residential tower blocks of similar height.
This proposal is far too big for our area.
Kentish Town does not need and cannot accommodate a budget store Hollywood. How can Camden be the midwife of such overdevelopment?
A new Murphy’s Yard scheme will almost inevitably follow the lead of this scheme, if successful. Combined with Camden’s own nearby estate developments, the effect could be immensely negative on the area and the Heath in particular.
We should not allow the council to approve this. Please support us in protecting the Heath and Hampstead in opposing this madness
Cllr Stark opposes plans for new towers Councillor Stephen Stark issued the following statement in response to the proposal: The importance of the Heath to Hampstead cannot be understated. As well as serving as a lung to the north of Camden, it provides the invaluable benefit of quiet relaxation, healthy exercise and even spiritual contemplation for the residents of the direct area and those from afar who visit.
As your Hampstead Town Councillor, I cannot stand by and let these inappropriate schemes progress through our planning system with the apparent support of the Council through SPG guidance and direct involvement as applicant.
We are focused on this existential threat to the whole of the area. What gets built in our borough is our responsibility. That responsibility must be met and these schemes amended to better suit and protect our direct environment. Tell me what you think [email protected]
