■ Highgate tube station is the third deepest tube station on the entire underground network, yet it has no passenger lift.
■ The need for a lift at Highgate tube has been brought into sharp focus by the extraordinarily long out-of-service period of the Archway Road up-escalator which was out of service for nearly 12 months. As a result, many older tube passengers were being forced to alight at either Archway or East Finchley stations and then catch a bus.
■ Even in the best of times, there is no step-free access to Highgate tube which makes it difficult for passengers with accessibility needs.
■ In September 2024, and again on 23 January 2025, Conservative Andrew Boff AM asked the Mayor if TfL had any plans to address the access problems at Highgate tube station. TfL replied that "There are no plans to make Highgate station step-free". We think that is a cop-out and a wholly inadequate response to the significant and vulnerable access issues at the station.
■ Andrew and your local Conservatives have launched a campaign to persuade TfL to look at this issue seriously. Highgate residents can make their voices heard and support this campaign by signing our petition here by following the link haringey.team/HighgateTubeLift
